Hey there! I can hardly believe how quick the days are flying by.. Only two more sleeps until Christmas!! This will be my last post until after Christmas. I’m going to take some time off and enjoy the Holidays! I hope you can do the same!
We will be hosting Christmas Eve dinner at our home, so I wanted to create a gorgeous centerpiece for everyone to enjoy! Today I’m going to share how to make your own DIY Winter centerpiece with fresh flowers from the grocery!
I really lucked out on this particular shopping trip because most of the fresh flowers I purchased had just been marked down! I was so excited!! For this arrangement I opted for, eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus, magnolia leaves, fresh winter greens and hypericum berries. I also stopped at the craft store and picked up a live floral foam block that will keep your fresh flowers alive longer! Pick one of your favorite bowls or decorative pieces. Cut the foam (if needed) to fit snug into your bowl. Saturate the foam completely in water. I had an abundance of eucalyptus, so I began clipping off pieces and adding them to the foam to fill the back, I also added a few shorter pieces to the middle and sides.
Next I grabbed the magnolia leaves, since they’re so large, I wanted to add them before the arrangement started getting too full. I added them to the sides first. I then began adding the silver dollar eucalyptus and berries. Juts add things as you feel it’s necessary. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I tend to mirror each side so it has a consistent appearance. At this point, I added the last two stems of magnolia leaves I had, and sort of dropped them from the sides. One of my favorite things about using the silver dollar eucalyptus is, it’s so whimsy and has a cascading effect on the entire arrangement. I added the stems of fresh winter greens throughout. Turn your arrangement around and fill in any spaces that look bare. For an added touch, I added two stems of glittery filler to it! Bling!
You will want to keep your foam wet, so water it every couple of days! And last but least, enjoy!! You’ve just created a gorgeous, expensive looking arrangement in mere minutes and for a fraction of the cost of a professional doing it! A cost break down for my arrangement (keep in mind I lucked out with clearance!) (2) $2.49 for silver dollar eucalyptus, hypericum berries $2.49, (2) $2.49 magnolia leaves and large bunch of fresh eucalyptus $7, and the cost of the foam $3, brings my total cost to $22.45! I couldn’t be happier with the result and it’s so beautiful!
Wishing each and every one of you a Merry Christmas!! May God bless you in 2016!
