Isabella’s FIRST Birthday Party!

May 22, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: birthday party, Cakes by bess, diy, Facebook, first birthday, ruffle cake, vintage chic birthday party 1 Comment

After a pretty smooth move Friday, we couldn’t wait to celebrate Isabella’s first birthday on Saturday! We woke up and started preparing for the day… I had already hung her banner a few days before and centered it! I bought all of the decorations for her party before we started working on the house, which was a HUGE relief to have out of the way. I started unpacking everything one- by – one. Placed the pink table cloth, centered the cake stand, placed the pictures I had prepared, etc!

Side note- – I love pictures and picture frames, so I knew I wanted to display a couple of pictures from her smash cake session a couple weeks before. I wanted white, vintage inspired frames, but the ones I was finding were too expensive. So, I was at Walmart for some odds and ends, and decided to browse the picture frames. They had a number of silver frames with different designs to choose from. From there, I bought Krylons white spray paint with primer. Went home, spray painted the frames, about three even coats, let dry and roughed the edges with a low grain sandpaper. Exactly the look I was looking for ๐Ÿ™‚

The adorable ruffle cakes, themselves, made for a beautiful center piece! “Cakes by Bess” created a large strawberry ruffle cake and matching smash cake, as well as, two dozen of delectable cupcakes! Please be sure to click on the link above to visit her facebook page and place an order for your next event!

I will feature a couple of tutorials for some of the decor I made, later this week!

What do you think of this Vintage Chic inspired party? Share one of your own by emailing me “here“!!

Cake Pops, yumMm

November 8, 2011 by Fotini Filed Under: Babycakes, Bed bath and beyond, cake balls, cake pop maker, Cake pops, donut holes, Facebook, fall, glaze, icicng, lollipops, pumpkin, pumpkin spice, recipe-1, season, Wilton Candy Melts Leave a Comment

I’ve been hearing, and seeing, soo much about ‘Cake Pops’ lately, so I decided to give it a try…
At first I went to Bed Bath & Beyond and bought the “cake pop” maker by Babycakes, included in the kit are short and long lollipop sticks, cake picker, and recipe book with great recipes for cake balls, donut holes, icings and glazes! I ended up making just white cake balls, but I added a little bit of nutmeg and pumpkin spice to accent the lovely Fall season ๐Ÿ™‚ I made the basic glaze, often used on donut holes and I also bought Wilton candy melts, along with some sprinkles for decorating! Using the cake maker made the process extremely effortless! The most difficult part about it, is decorating with the candy melts at the end. They turned out good, but I wasn’t extremely impressed.
Upon posting about my recent purchase of the cake maker on Facebook, I had a friend tell me a super simple way to make the cake balls without a maker, so I decided to give that a try! I must say this way is much tastier and less expensive since you don’t have to buy the cake maker product. So to make the cake balls this way, you simply choose a cake mix of your choice, bake it as directed on the box, let it cool completely. Then you begin to crumble up the cake and mix in one spoon full of softened icing at a time. You will use at least half of a container of icing, but not all of it. Stop adding the icing once you are able to easily form a ball with the mixture. Continue to do this with the entire mixture, placing each ball on baking sheet. Once you’re done with that, place the baking pan, with balls, in the fridge to cool for about an hour. I’ve heard some people do it for as little as 25 minutes and some do it as long as 2 hours. Once your cake balls have chilled, melt your candy melts in a glass container according to the instructions listed on the bag, decorate however you want and ENJOY!!
These are such an adorable addition for any occasion! Birthdays, holidays, gifts, parties.. the opportunities are endless!

As I was on Facebook the other day, I saw an add to the side about Jones Soda, I clicked on it.. And I was soo excited at what I found! My Jones offers personalized labels for soda pop. They offer 15 different flavors of soda. This is BY FAR my favorite favor idea!

I LOVVE this : )

I am coordinating the flavors with my colors…
– Cream Soda, yumm!
– Orange & Cream AND
– RootBeer

You also can add a customized saying on the back label ( up to 8 lines 40 characters each line)! Add your favorite love quote, Bible verse, ‘Thank You’ message, Wedding Theme, anything you want.

This idea is super cute and tasty! Who doesn’t love a good soda?!! We’re going to have a table near the doors with the bottles color coordinated so our guests can choose their favorite!
